REFERENCES
Tends to be relaxed and smiling until somebody pushes him. Generally found in long-sleeve button-ups or long-sleeve t-shirts, usually dark colored for practicality's sake.

There are glowing tattoos wrapping up both arms that are usually hidden, twisting lines that abstractly resemble chains. He can bring them into visibility if he chooses to, and they will automatically be seen by someone he's making a deal with; people who see through glamors or see how things really are will likely see them at all times.
PERSONALITY
+ compassionate, knowledgeable, friendly, decisive, adaptive
  - workaholic, secretive, stubborn, morally strange, sometimes detached

Most things seem to roll right off of Billy's back. He's good-humored and good-natured, always seems to be in control of himself, and usually prefers to defuse a tense situation with a calm word and an offer of a drink than let it linger. He rolls with the punches, and doesn't seem to let much get him down.

But once he's pushed, he doesn't take shit from anybody, and he doesn't back down from a confrontation. He is fierce in protecting what's his: his space, the people he cares about, the deals he's made. It's knowledge of his own ability to control a situation that helps him keep his cool most of the time, and he's very willing to use force or tricks or whatever he has to keep that control when he needs it.

He likes people, though it often comes off in a way that seems like he likes how useful people are. He finds what people can do fascinating, and he sort of collects them, keeps a running mental tally of who he knows that can do what and is quick to suggest names if someone needs help. People who hang around him learn quickly that if they're looking for something specific, Billy probably knows a guy for that. His memory for the little details people tell him seems to be endless, and he's very good at making people feel noticed.

He also has a notable soft spot for desperate people, people in messes at least partly of their own making, and people who get themselves into trouble -- something that springs a little bit from his nature, though he tries not to trap cornered people into deals. He shakes his head at them and tries to tell them to do better, but he never turns them away, offers what help he can outside of what he can do, and will keep tabs on them as long as they're willing to be watched over.

People who get to know him particularly well might start to pick up where things are a little bit off about him. His morality is strange, a patchwork quilt of weird lines and limits, and more concerned with what people with supernatural enhancement should and shouldn't do to human than what humans do to each other. He's good at not mentioning things he shouldn't have been alive for most of the time, but every once in a while he'll slip around friends. He doesn't talk about his family, and he doesn't talk about growing up. It's not a lot to go on -- he's had a long time to perfect the mask of being human, and his mother's blessing helps keep people from picking up on the slips most of the time -- but someone who's around long enough and close enough might start to form a picture of the ways Billy's not quite the same as other people.
BACKGROUND
FAMILY
mother, Lady Luck;
Goddess who raised him, dotes on him, protects him as needs be, and still visits occasionally to see how he's doing. Has thoroughly charmed the bar, meaning Billy's luck is supernaturally good in his own space.
Billy's mother is a Goddess -- she is more or less written into the fabric of the world, and she's not held to its rules so much as she is its rules, and can break them without thinking. He grew up watching his mother bend probability and odds with nothing more than the twitch of her lips or the quirk of her head, knowing he'd never have that much freedom and learning the rules he'd be held to as something part-God, part-human.

It's a strange way to grow up, in other words, and some of Billy's way of looking at the world is decidedly non-human. He's learned very well how to hide that over the years, and is great at passing for fully human these days, but the actual way he understands thing is always going to be a little skewed.

His mother isn't inclined to stay in one place long, and he got used to traveling young; still enjoys it sometimes, but he doesn't have the itch to move that his mother does. He'd planned on following in those footsteps when he was old enough to break away on his own, but he hadn't been alone for long when he fell in love with the city he settled into and found a place to call his own.

He's been in this city and in his bar long enough to warp the space a little to fit him. His bar is a crossroads by now, and there's something a little liminal about it. There's something about the space that urges people not necessarily to be openly honest, but not the lie about their needs, and keeps the peace so that he doesn't have to worry about doing so himself. It's a comfortable, warm place, much like the energy Billy tries to put off himself, and he's happy to take in people who need help even if they don't want a deal, and do what he can for them.

He's happy in his bar, in his city, making his deals and making connections. It's a quiet life, especially for someone who expected to end up more like his mother, but it's the one he's chosen, and he wouldn't trade it for the world.
ABILITIES
DEALS
🠚 Can and does offer to help people in the form of making deals: there's always a payment, though Billy tends to be pretty lenient compared to other crossroads demigods, and then he'll help to at least the letter of the arrangement, and usually a bit beyond.
🠚 There are certain rules he's held to; while he likes helping people of his own accord, there are things, particularly things that require supernatural help, that he can't offer without making it part of a deal, and he must take payment, which gets steeper the more deals someone makes.
🠚 His bar works as a metaphorical crossroads, and there's an energy to it that draws in desperate people or people looking for someone like him.
🠚 That said, he tends to prefer to drop information about a ritual to call on someone to make a deal and let the person choose whether or not to perform it before he starts the exchange; he's really not big on tricking people into making deals.
🠚 There is a subtle compulsion around him once the process begins, which prompts the other person to tell him things and answer his questions; it's a sort of defense thing, keeping people from leaving out important information, although people can get around it, especially if they know it's coming.
MISC SUPERNATURAL ABILITIES
🠚 Harder to injure than a normal human, stronger and faster, ages slower.
🠚 Tends to be very aware of magical people and things going on around him. This goes double in his own space -- you can't use magic in the bar without him being aware of it.
🠚 Because of blessings from his mother, tends to be extremely lucky, and this also goes double in his own space. This also extends to making people unlikely to question his aging or anything strange they see.
🠚 Not Billy necessarily, but the bar is also kind of marked as his mother's territory as a warning to anything bigger than him that might want to come through. Basically supernatural things might get the impression that something even bigger and more dangerous will come for them if they fuck with the place or the person there.
MUNDANE ABILITIES
🠚 Can make just about any drink you can name
🠚 Great listener, pretty good at getting people to open up even without relying on supernatural skills
🠚 Good at making connections; he has a large network of people he knows and is willing to put people together who could use each other, especially if they ask nicely
VARIANTS
🠚 Human AU. Son of a con artist who taught him some very strange morals and a lot of odd things over his life. Still runs a bar, which is a hotspot for criminals in the city, and most of the regulars are shady in one way or another. He doesn't do much crime himself anymore, but he's happy to assist others and share information on who might be useful if anyone needs help.

🠚 Generally can be tweaked to fit into other kinds of supernatural worlds where gods don't work as well. My rule of thumb is that if there's a magical world, he's part of it; the bar and helping people stay the same, but the specifics can change. Some other options include:
 🠚 fae
 🠚 witch
🠚 demon who'd rather not actually hurt anyone, or take any souls
🠚 vampire; favors are sometimes for knowledge or trade, sometimes for food
🠚 dragon; he hoards favors. and books. and rare wines and liquors.
🠚 personification of the bar itself; people most likely don't know, but you've never seen him outside of it, have you?
🠚 whitelighter; if you want to get your 90s supernatural dramas on.
